Several months ago, a patient began experiencing recurrent pain in the left side of her abdomen. Even taking medication for acid reflux, her discomfort was ongoing. One evening, she awakened with unbearable stomach pain and fever, symptoms of diverticulitis, when harmless pouches attached to the digestive tract become inflamed or infected.
A CT scan revealed that surgery would be necessary to end the pain by removing the segment of the inflamed organ and the affixed pouches. She was a suitable candidate for a minimally invasive surgical option and was able to avoid major surgery, recover much more quickly, and experience significantly less scarring and post-operative pain.
If you are suffering from chronic gastrointestinal discomfort, see your doctor. Click here for more information http://www.primesurgicare.com/general-surgery-procedure.php#colon.

Patients considered significantly obese (with a body mass index of more than 40 kg/m2 or more than 100 pounds overweight) or living with chronic health challenges sometimes avoid bariatric weight loss surgery, due to the substantial health risks involved.
But there is a less invasive (and therefore less risky) surgical option available which does not involve putting in a medical device such as a band. Gastric sleeve surgery is a weight loss procedure that removes up to 80 percent of the stomach leaving only a small tube (called a sleeve) which is banana shaped and banana size that will serve as the new and smaller stomach.
This operation promotes weight loss by limiting food intake, decreasing hunger and significantly reducing appetite but does not involve more complex intestinal rerouting or food malabsorption (lack of absorbing nutrients from consumed food).
For very obese patients, gastric sleeve surgery can facilitate significant weight less so they can eventually undergo a more extensive surgical weight loss option, such as gastric bypass or the duodenal switch.
