Have varicose vein treatment today–and be back at work tomorrow!
Prime Surgicare specializes in the VNUS Closure® procedure, a minimally invasive, office based treatment option for eliminating varicose veins. The FDA-approved procedure uses radiofrequency heat placed directly into the wall of the saphenous vein in the thigh. It is a recommended alternative to traditional vein stripping, surgical removal of veins from the leg, which usually requires general anesthesia followed by a long recovery and significant swelling, bruising and pain.
Best of all, the VNUS Closure® is an out-patient or office-based treatment. After the procedure, patients experience only minimal discomfort and do not generally require pain medication. Most patients can return to light activity the following day and regular activity within a week. Treated veins will disappear within a few weeks.
Recently, a study in the Journal of Vascular Surgery compared vein stripping and the VNUS Closure® procedure by evaluating procedure-related complications, overall patient recuperation and quality-of-life issues. In every measurable category, patients who underwent the Closure procedure experienced better outcomes.

Dear Oluseun,
Ahh summer–a time to enjoy the warm sun and put away the long pants and sweaters. But for men and women plagued by varicose veins, summer can be a time to keep covered up.
Besides unsightly bulging veins, this chronic condition can be quite painful and potentially dangerous to your health. It also restricts your quality of life. The good news is there are minimally invasive treatments, performed in our offices, that will have you back on your feet the day after the procedure!
There is still plenty of time left to enjoy the season. Make this the summer that you safely banish varicose veins–with minimal discomfort and scarring.
Yours in good health,
Dr. Seun

Before and after Vnus Closure
|
In 2002, Anita Davison of Manalapan was suffering from phlebitis in her left leg that made her foot, ankle and leg swollen and painful. The condition also exacerbated her varicose vein protrusion and chronic discomfort. At that time, her doctor performed surgical vein stripping, a procedure where the vein is surgically removed from the leg. The operation requires general anesthesia and post-operative recovery time can be long (up to two months) and painful. In addition, there are stitches to be removed and extensive scarring from the incisions required to remove each affected vein.
“I clearly recall that my leg was black and blue for weeks and I had long scars where the veins were removed,” Anita recalls. “It took almost two months before I was back to my regular routine.” For this mother of five active children, it was an especially frustrating recovery.
Eight years later, Anita faced painful varicose veins and swelling in her other (right) leg and dreaded having to face the vein stripping ordeal a second time. As her pain and discomfort increased, her primary care physician referred her to varicose vein specialist, Dr. Seun Sowemimo.
“He told me about a newer procedure that would get rid of the veins without requiring major surgery,” Anita explains. “I couldn’t believe it when he said I could go back to work the day after the procedure.”
Dr. Seun recommended the VNUS Closure® procedure, a minimally invasive, office-based treatment option that uses radiofrequency heat placed directly into the wall of the vein in the thigh to eliminate the varicose vein. Heating the vein causes collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally reroutes to healthy veins.
“Dr. Seun patiently answered all my questions in terms I could understand,” Anita recalls. “He had an upbeat, optimistic outlook that made me comfortable and ready to proceed.” After undergoing the hour-long procedure right in Dr. Seun’s office, Anita rested and then headed home. The next day, she was back at work, chasing after a two-year-old who is in her care. About two weeks later, Anita’s procedure and her varicose veins were just a distant memory. |

Minimally Invasive Treatment for Diverticulitis Speeds Recovery
|
|
Several months ago, a patient began experiencing recurrent pain in the left side of her abdomen. Even taking medication for acid reflux, her discomfort was ongoing. One evening, she awakened with unbearable stomach pain and fever, symptoms of diverticulitis, when harmless pouches attached to the digestive tract become inflamed or infected.
A CT scan revealed that surgery would be necessary to end the pain by removing the segment of the inflamed organ and the affixed pouches. She was a suitable candidate for a minimally invasive surgical option and was able to avoid major surgery, recover much more quickly, and experience significantly less scarring and post-operative pain.
If you are suffering from chronic gastrointestinal discomfort, see your doctor.

Gastric sleeve resection is your
safer surgical route to substantial weight loss |
|
Patients considered significantly obese (with a body mass index of more than 40 kg/m2 or more than 100 pounds overweight) or living with chronic health challenges sometimes avoid bariatric weight loss surgery, due to the substantial health risks involved.
But there is a less invasive (and therefore less risky) surgical option available which does not involve putting in a medical device such as a band. Gastric sleeve surgery is a weight loss procedure that removes up to 80 percent of the stomach leaving only a small banana- shaped tube (called a sleeve) which will serve as the new and smaller stomach.
This operation promotes weight loss by limiting food intake, decreasing hunger and significantly reducing appetite but does not involve more complex intestinal rerouting or food malabsorption (lack of absorbing nutrients from consumed food).
For very obese patients, gastric sleeve surgery can facilitate significant weight less so they can eventually undergo a more extensive surgical weight loss option, such as gastric bypass or the duodenal switch.

The value of a physician consultation

When it comes to personal healthcare, I cannot stress how valuable a simple consultation with a physician can be. Frequently, patients come to me after spending sleepless nights worrying about a possible health condition that ultimately they do not even suffer from.
In the unlikely situation that a health concern becomes a reality, making the appointment to see your doctor can expedite treatment sooner and before the condition becomes more serious and challenging to treat successfully.
If you are ready to get the facts about your own healthcare questions related to surgical weight loss, varicose vein treatment or chronic stomach discomfort, please call us at Prime Surgicare and rest easier tonight. |
