In-Office Varicose Vein Treatment

Have varicose vein treatment today and be back at work tomorrow?

Absolutely! First, a little background:

Painful swelling from venous reflux disease, or varicose veins, is much more than just a cosmetic issue. The condition can lead to swelling of the lower limbs, skin inflammations and leg ulcers. The condition is also progressive-symptoms will worsen over time, if left untreated. Varicose veins predominantly affect women. Women at risk are generally over age 50, overweight, pregnant, have a family history of the disease or work in professions requiring long periods of standing.

Traditionally, vein stripping has been the surgical treatment for removing varicose veins. This procedure usually necessitates general anesthesia and hospitalization. The surgery requires a groin incision and the actual removal, called stripping, of the faulty veins. Recovery time is as long as six weeks and can be quite uncomfortable.

Prime Surgicare specializes in the VNUS Closure® procedure, a minimally invasive, office based treatment option for eliminating varicose veins. The FDA-approved procedure uses radiofrequency heat placed directly into the wall of the saphenous vein in the thigh. It is a recommended alternative to traditional vein stripping, surgical removal of veins from the leg, which usually requires general anesthesia followed by a long recovery and significant swelling, bruising and pain. Following the procedure, a simple bandage is placed over the insertion site and additional compression is provided to aid healing.

Patients should begin short walks immediately but refrain from extended standing and strenuous activities until your doctor gives you the go-ahead. Many people are pleased to discover that after undergoing the VNUS Closure® procedure, they can typically resume normal activities the day after surgery.
